Tumblers History :
Howbury Tumblers was set up in 2000 in the old Howbury Centre by the current manager Carole and opened its doors on the 18th June. Clare came as a work experience student the same year and has stayed for our journey, us being joined along the way by Tina and Sam. In 2001 we achieved Charity status and were able to start applying for funding for Group activities, equipment and such. In December 2004 there was a huge fire at the centre, and tumblers lost almost everything. We, with the help of friends and supporters, still managed to put on our Christmas parties the following week for the children !! The centre was closed for three months for repairs, after that it was business as usual ! In October 2014 we closed our doors for the last time at The Howbury Centre, bid it a tearful farewell, and two weeks later opened in the new Centre, our current home. The old centre has now been demolished, but Howbury Tumblers continues to go from strength to strength, and we are now going into our 16th year of childcare provision !
As a registered charity Howbury Tumblers is managed day to day by our dedicated team of staff - see below for the pics ! and more formally by our Management Comittee, made up of Parents and Carers of attending children. We are lucky to have such loyal and devoted Committee members, and always welcome  any interest in new parents joining the committee and having a say in how Tumblers is run. The Committee meet three times a year , usually in the evening, to discuss matters, arrange social events for parents etc. If you would like to become more involved please speak to your playleader
We at Howbury Tumblers encourage and welcome your participation in all our activities with your children. This then involves YOU in their learning and development whilst they are at our Group. We also welcome your input into our daily routines and activities, so if you would like to help, please do !!
DO not hide your talents, Mums & Dads !!!!!
If you are creative and have any ideas for our arts & crafts, we welcome them. Maybe you are a fab cook, and could give us recipes to cook with the children - we particularly welcome ideas for activities that reflect other cultures. Maybe you would like to join our other Parents on the management Committee, and have a say in how Tumblers is run and develops in the future. We would love to have you on board, and we can help you access free courses, in basic accounting, for example, through BVSC, as a volunteer, which may help you to add to your skill base. Please speak to your playleader at any time.
WE are highly committed to both Howbury Tumblers as a Group and to our Local Community. We try to contribute to this by being active in other Community bodies such as Slade Green Big local, and by volunteering in planning and implementing local events . We raise money for Tumblers by applying for funding , and much of our supplies and equipment are maintained in this way . Currently we have funding from Children In Need ( for Tina's wage) Awards For All for our Tumblers Tiny Citizens Project, Ironmonger's Foundation for Arts & Crafts & cooking materials and Slade Green Big local for a new sensory den and trampolines, all coming soon !!
We are committed to keeping attendance costs low for our families, and funding helps us to make this possible, whilst enabling us to provide the best possible services to our families. We are here to support and help if we can, and are happy for anyone to contact us out of hours for support or advice, we are always here for our families and there is no problems we havent heard before ! This is a really important element of our work and we believe happy well supported parents will help children in the long run, and our family here at Tumblers offers opportunity for fun and friendship outside the home for both children and adults .
WE are very happy to provide childcare work experience placements to students at all levels of study - if you come along you may meet one or two of them ! Our student support program has been running many years now, and we are proud to say some of our former students have been very successful in their chosen careers , and we are proud to be able to contribute to our Community in this way
